shisha bar

i just read chm’s blog and had the idea to make a best of bern categorie, where i will write about hot spots and places to be in bern capital. places to go in the most beautiful town in the world!

as chm’s last post was about his shisha, don’t miss the shisha bar in bern. perfect to hang out, relax, have a drink, and so on…

The Fray

in august last year i was on a business trip in denver, colorado. somebody i had to work with burned me a CD. the fray is the name of the band and it was a local band from the denver region. now over one year later what do i hear every morning in the radio!. i have to say its a fantastic album. looks like it takes a while until a band makes the way over the big bond!

you may know their most famous song already:

“one who has not seen lahore is not born yet”

looks like i’m born now. the title of this post is a common saying. my job was leading me to lahore pakistan. i heard a lot of comments and concerns from collegues, but i was always looking forward to this trip. as always i was accompanied by a local person which makes everything easier. i was surprised how open and lovely everybody was to me. Most of the women don’t wear a headscarf and are very modern dressed. of course do they still have traditionall elemts in their dresses. It looke really nice and elegant. the way they talk sounds similar to hindi. it’s called urdu. it’s close to hindi but the writing is completely different. the good thing in pakistan is that nearly everybody can speak english. this is leading me to the many beautiful buildings i saw, which the english people left behind. unfortunately i saw everything only by night.

what i really could enjoy was pakistani specialties. during one of my first dinners at the “salt’n'peppr village” i got offered a freshli sugarcane juice. that was very delicious! i learned that sugarcane is planted all around lahore. my guide, ali drank it a lot as he was a child. the next sugarcane juice i had on a stand directly at the street. this one was even more delicious!

back to the food, it’s a mixture between indian and turkish food. you have curries but you also kebabs. it was quite spicy. often i was pushing my limits, but the good thing was my stomach could handle it!

as you can see above it looks also very good. i have to say the bread was extremely good. they have naan bread but also thicker kind of.

as i said it was a very good experience. it’s absolutely not behind in development, actually in certain things they are ahead. they have a lot of cars running with natural gas. the emissions are much better than gasoline cars.

last but not least i have to say thank you to ali which spoiled me during the stay and raza and nadeem for making my stay very easy and extremely enjoyable.

flying swiss!

what a dilemma today! on board entertainment of swiss was offering four movies and some other crap:

  • the lake house
  • monsters inc.
  • the devil wears prada
  • wedding crashers

two of them i saw already! so i had to choose between the devil and the romantic lake house!

ok, i gave love a chance… if they would bring up a bit more the spiritual stuff, i think it would be a good movie!

it’s not so bad that they only showed crap! i started reading my book about tasmania!
